Hello, welcome to my Student Blog! My name is Megan Crombeen and I am a third-year student here at the University of Victoria. I am studying a dual general major in Social Justice Studies and Technology and Society, with a minor in Education. Once I have completed this degree my plans are to return home where I can do a two years masters program in education, with hopes of becoming an Elementary school teacher afterwards. My home to me is in Calgary Alberta, where I live with my parents and my twin sister, originally however I was born in Toronto Ontario where I lived for the first 7 years of my life. This course is a required course for my minor, and although it is required it is a course that grabs my interest. I believe with how relevant technology is within every aspect of our society, and the constant addition of it into schools and learning that gaining and building on my knowledge about interactive and multimedia learning will be extremely beneficial. I am looking forward to further exploring this course and all it has to offer throughout the semester!

Hi Megan, my name is Pim it’s really nice to meet you! Wow, an elementary school teacher, that is amazing. I agree with you that technology is relevant especially to people living in today’s generation whether it is for education, media, or keeping up with the global world. Technology can foster many things like collaboration and improve student performance with easy to access information. I agree that it enables us to explore new subjects and deepen our understanding of difficult concepts. Aside from the point that you stated, students can also benefit from gaining 21st century technical skills that are necessary for future occupations as well. Thats so cool that you are doing a major on technology and society. Good luck with your learnings!
Hi Megan,
Thank you for sharing your post. Understanding multimedia learning is valuable for elementary education since many elements of school are transitioning to online formats. Obtaining a solid grasp of the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning principles is also beneficial for successful teaching. More specifically, educating through a combination of varied learning methods can assist children in obtaining a stronger grasp of information while facilitating the learning process. It seems that you have a clear idea of what you want to do after you obtain your degree, and I wish you luck on your path toward becoming an elementary teacher.
